What is the difference between Pilates and Fitlates™?

Pilates focuses on slower more controlled movements. We value the fundamental concepts and original equipment of Classical Pilates. We also believe in the modern mind and body need for variety to achieve flexibility and strength. We incorporate modern Fitness Techniques and pieces of equipment while working at a rapid pace with a high level of intensity. With Fitlates™ you get the best of both worlds on and off the Reformer.

What does a Fitlates™ class include?

Our Fitlates™ classes fuse elements of classical Pilates and its equipment with elements of contemporary fitness techniques and equipment including TRX, Ballet Barre, Bosu Ball, Gliders, Hand Weights, and other small props.

How often should I do Fitlates™?

Like Joseph Pilates said, “in 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 you’ll see the difference, and in 30 you’ll have a new body”. Our current members attend class 4-5 times a week. We recommend at least 2-3 classes a week for regular benefits of movement.

What age do I need to be?

Our requirement is 18 and older. Fitlates™ is very technical so it requires a basic level of awareness in the body. We are open to considering clients between 16-18 years old with parental consent.

What is the class capacity?

Max capacity is twelve clients to one instructor. All BeneFit Body instructors are certified and trained in anatomy and the equipment at the studio.

What levels do you offer? Where do I start?

We believe physical fitness is a journey, not a destination. We offer three levels: Develop (Beginner), Practice (Intermediate) and Challenge (Advanced). All clients NEW to our studio must begin with a Develop class regardless of prior Pilates experience. This is for the safety and flow of class for ALL clients. Any movement when done correctly will be challenging and provide benefits and we want to make sure you have the knowledge of equipment and anatomical awareness to move safely.

  • BeneFit Develop: Perfect for those new to the studio and Fitlates™! This class provides an understanding of the equipment, proper form, breath and alignment. In this class, you will learn how to isolate specific muscle groups to get the most out of your workout. It moves at a slower pace allowing the client to develop their practice, while still challenging the body. REQUIRED FOR NEW CLIENTS.
  • BeneFit Practice: Once you’ve acquired an understanding of the equipment and most importantly the basics of form and alignment it is time to “practice” your skills! This class offers options for clients to challenge themselves while still providing modifications for those who are developing techniques and understanding. Although this class is a mixed level class, it will move at a faster pace and does require at least three BeneFit Develop classes to ensure the safety and flow of the class.
  • BeneFit Challenge: You want to be ready mentally and physically for this! This is our most advanced class, where all your practiced knowledge, strength, coordination and awareness come into play. This is geared towards those wanting to push themselves and their practiced skills to the next level. The class moves at a faster pace and offers challenges for the mind and body every step of the way. You can expect to leave feeling exhausted and empowered. An understanding of the equipment, awareness of proper form and at least three BeneFit Practice classes are required for safety and flow of class for everyone.

What do I wear to Fitlates™?

We recommend comfortable and supportive tops with leggings, “yoga”/athleisure attire. We require socks (with grip) for safety, cleanliness and comfort. We are a perfume and fragrance-free environment and we ask all our clients to minimize their usage as clients and instructors have sensitivities.

What do I do if I have injuries?

Although we are trained and skilled professionals, we are not physical therapists. Please disclose any chronic/acute injuries to an instructor or studio manager. These can also be emailed to us at [email protected]. We will be honest if we cannot accommodate your needs.

Do you offer Privates/Semi-Privates?

Beginning March 2019 we will be offering semi-privates with our founder and master trainer, Nikkita Weerasinghe. Prices are on our Pricing page. To schedule, please email [email protected].
